"You may be born to lose, but not born to give up"
I am an outgoing person that cares alot about maintaining relationships with people that are important to me, helped me before or shares similar views on life with me. I pride myself for being very logical with my thought process and I carry a very practical view of the world along with many idealistic goals. With this quality, I pushed and shaped many of my school culture as part of the Student Welfare department in my School Student Council. Some major contributions include budgeting, designing and furnishing of our school Student Lounge, introducing and implementing a Student Learning centre which provides student with a conducive environment for night studying sessions during the examination period. These are practical, lasting and highly impactful contributions to the school that I played a major role in. My logical thinking abilities are further being endorsed by the school when I was selected through rigorous rounds of selection test to represent my school in the NUS Business Case Challenge where I acted as a business consultant to the Singapore Airlines. My idealistic nature coupled with a practical view of the world is also being exemplified when I initiated and organised my school first music competition which attracted private sponsorships and managed high ticket sales of a revenue of $3300 when I see an opportunity and demand for such a grand event as my school began to have 6 Years of student after introducing the IP curriculum. I believe in embracing quirkiness and diversity, for it makes the world a more interesting place and plays a large part in ensuring creativity, innovation and progress. This makes me constantly on the look out for opportunities and ideas, and as such I joined business ideas competition and was a semi-finalist at the Ideas.Inc Business Challenge competition organised by NTU. However, I pulled out during the semi-finals due to my heavy national service schedule. As the band leader in my Rock band, I also have many opportunities to exercise creativity and composed or adapted many originals. My working style lies in working hard and playing hard, and gets a kick in taking up ambitious projects and enjoys spending enormous effort and time on it when I see a great potential, meaning and fun in accomplishing it. One of the motto that I live by is: Live faster, Love stronger Some of my Non-academic achievements include holding a Blackbelt in Taekwondo, of which I am still practising till today, composed 2 original songs with 2 different rock bands that I formed and competed in the Yamaha Asian Beat Music Competition, and being a semi finalist in the Ideas.Inc Business Challenge competition. I was also in EcoSingapore and was part of a 4 man team organising Earth Hour 2010 Carnival/Concert for Southeast CDC. Music is pretty much a big part of my life as I formed my own rock band and currently still playing Saxophone in my school Alumni band. Music playing emphasizes alot on teamwork and harmony, as without that "click" or connection as a team, the music will have no soul. We must actively listen and respond to each other even when we are playing separate parts. This is an insight that I apply to my everyday life and work as well. Being an avid fighter, I have learnt to be humble and be constantly on the look out for opportunities to learn new techniques. Each technique and fight is unique on its own and you must be adaptable in order to win a fight, as no same technique will work on different fighting styles. Similarly in work, we must be open to new work styles and be flexible to learn, adapt and execute the most critical “technique” to achieve success. In stressful situations, I also learnt to be compose and think carefully instead of just bashing through and hope to win. Lastly, to win a fight, the spirit and confidence takes up half the battle. These are many useful qualities that I have picked up from fighting. Reading and watching of videos also plays a large part in shaping me as I enjoyed reading various genres of books for pleasure. Some of my favourite authors include Physicist Michio Kaku, economist Joseph Stiglitz, thriller novelist Stieg Larsson and Dan Brown and many others such as John C. Maxwell, Mitch Albom and Malcolm Gladwell. I also enjoyed many films and movies, and one my favourite past time is to watch great speeches on Tedvideos. Some magazines that I frequently read at my local library include Reader Digests, Technology Review and Harvard Business Review. Lastly, I do alot of self reflection and always hope to lead a happy and meaningful life.
