"Practice makes perfect"
My teaching method is to get the students to understand the basic underlying theory before teaching them how to apply what they have learnt on problems/questions. And I encourage students to speak up and ask whenever they have doubts or have difficulty in understanding. Hopefully in a one to one setting students will be less shy to ask questions.
