"Helping my students to realise their full potential."
I like interacting with teenagers and guiding them, so teaching is something that I thoroughly enjoy doing. I had 24 years teaching at secondary level, mainly upper secondary, in both English Language and Geography. 23 of those years were at my alma mater, CHIJ Secondary. I carry out a lot of one-to one and small-group tutoring classes, centred mainly on one of the core problems students have, i.e. addressing the different types of questions that may be asked in the O-Level examinations. I believe this is an essential skill, especially in the current syllabus which concentrates on critical thinking. I am also a qualified tennis coach.
For Core Geography, the cohorts of the years I taught graduating classes at CHIJ Secondary achieved an average of 75% Distinction at the O-Level Examinations, thanks to a combination of the students’ hard work and receptiveness to advice. For both English Language and Geography, my tutees at the various levels have achieved an average of A to B grades in the last two years that I have been tutoring, showing an improvement of about two grades.
