"Live to learn, learn to live"
I have always had a passion in teaching since young, which is why I volunteered for O level Tuition in Ang Mo Kio Secondary School in 2011. During my experience in AMKSS and various other studentsr, I realised there are many reasons why students do not score well in examinations. I will find out why a student isn't scoring and give help appropriately.
For example, if they do not understand the subject, I will explain and give examples to illustrate the concepts more clearly.
If they understand the topic but are stil unable to score, it may be due to poor examination answering techniques, of which I will work on.
If the problem is due to poor preparation before the exams, I will give them tips I used which allowed me to attain my straight As in the PSLE, Sec 4 and A Levels. I set mock exams to give my students as much preparation possible before the actual exams
I believe that education should not just be following the syllabus strictly and examinations. Therefore, for students who have the ability and interest, I am able to share things beyond the stipulated syllabus, which I have learnt from my Science Olympiads (covers undergraduate syllabus) and several science research conducted in school/external research institutes. These may help in answering novel questions in the O and A Levels.
In 2011, I had a student from AJC who failed her JC1 Promotional Exams. After tutoring her for 1.5 months, she managed to get promoted after her re-exams and improved to a B in her 2012 March Block Test. She attained an "A" for her A levels.
I obtained straight (8) As in my A levels including my H3.
I achieved a Gold Medal for the Singapore Chemistry Olympiad 2010, as well as the Best in Subject (Chemistry) in Hwa Chong JC2. I have taken part in and won prizes several Science competitions throughout Secondary School and JC.
