"Learning is about understanding and applying the concepts."
I have a total of 5 years of tutoring and teaching experience, and have given private tuition to 4 students before. When I was studying in Temasek Junior college, I tutored a primary 2 student for Maths as part of my CCA mentorship programme. After my A levels, I was accepted into the MOE Teaching Internship Programme, and I taught in Dunman Secondary School for one school term. I had taught 2 classes of Sec 1 students Maths and 1 class of Sec 1 students Science. I also taught 1 class of Sec 3 students Chemistry and another class of Sec 4 students Amaths. While I was an undergraduate in NUS, I have also given Chemistry, Amaths and Emaths tuition to a Secondary 4 student. Her results improved from Fail to A2 for all the 3 subjects. At the same time, I also taught a Primary 3 student Maths and her results improved from barely passing to getting above 80/100 for her exams. I also had a student from the IP programme and I taught her Maths from Sec 1 till Sec 2. Her results improved vastly from obtaining Cs to close to full marks for her exams. I had also tutored Chemistry to a Sec 4 student who was taking her O levels. Her grades improved greatly from C5 to A2 during her O levels exam. In 2015, I tutored a Sec 2 student Maths and he was able to improve his grades to A2 from B4. Most recently, I am tutoring a Sec 3 student Chemistry and we are steadily improving her grades from a C.
I believe in using daily activities and happenings to explain to students about the relevant concepts, so as to allow them to better understand and relate to the subjects.
